2026 ECLIPSE CALENDAR
Which 2026 eclipses
were visible from Korea?
2026 has two solar eclipses and two lunar eclipses. Only one was fully visible from Korea — the March 3 total lunar eclipse, which coincided with Jeongwol Daeboreum (the first full Moon of the lunar new year) and has already passed. Neither of August's two eclipses is visible from Korea.
Totality crosses Greenland, Iceland, and Spain — not visible from Korea.

Dates are the UTC calendar date of greatest eclipse, with Korea visibility noted.
| Date | Type | Visible from Korea | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| February 17, 2026 | Annular solar eclipse | No | Past |
| March 3, 2026 | Total lunar eclipse | Yes | Past |
| August 12, 2026 | Total solar eclipse | No | Upcoming |
| August 28, 2026 | Partial lunar eclipse | No | Upcoming |
Visible only from parts of East Antarctica — not visible from Korea · Totality visible from Greenland, Iceland, Spain, and Portugal — not visible from Korea · Best seen from the Americas, Europe, and Africa — the eclipse ends before moonrise in Korea
March 3: a total lunar eclipse on the Lunar New Year's full Moon
Jeongwol Daeboreum and a total lunar eclipse last coincided on February 10, 1990 — 36 years earlier. Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) published these Korea Standard Time contacts. At greatest eclipse the Moon stood about 24° above the eastern horizon.
| Phase | KST |
|---|---|
| Partial eclipse begins | 18:49 |
| Totality begins | 20:04 |
| Greatest eclipse | 20:33 |
| Totality ends | 21:03 |
| Partial eclipse ends | 22:17 |
Eclipse visibility depends on where you stand
A solar eclipse is only visible along the narrow path the Moon's shadow crosses on Earth's surface. A lunar eclipse needs the Moon above your horizon while Earth sits between the Sun and Moon. The August 28 eclipse reaches its maximum during Korea's daytime, so it is over before moonrise.
